40 Days or 40 Injections?

I'm on my third round of HCG, but this time I think I'm going to try to go for the full 40 days - I've been skipping my Sunday injections to avoid losing the effectivness. So my questions is, do I go 40 days total skipping one injection each week, or do I keep going until I get to 40 injections?

The other thing that I read is that you go to phase 3 72 hours after your last injection. This means you inject your last shot on day 23 or 40, then the following two days you continue to follow the vlcd. Why do I see people talking about going 26 or 43 days? Isn't that one day too long?

I am doing the protocol through a medical clinic with a Dr.:

40 shots, 1 each morning.
Do not do shots the first 3 days of your monthly cycle.
Take the last shot, then stay on the 500 calories protocol of food for 3 more days.

Depending on when you start the protocol & if you are a woman who still receives your monthly cycle you will end up on the 500 calories a day for up to 49 days.
