Kelly, most doctors are now saying that if you have green mucous for more than 7 days, your body is not fighting the infection successfully and antibiotics may be taken at that point. Around Thanksgiving, I had a bronchitis infection that I was able to fight off with a bunch of natural tricks, just last week I was feeling pretty poorly and kept it from progressing to the "really sick" level. I agree that over the counter stuff is not good, but for me anything that can get me through the day without taking antibiotics is pretty good. I use saline nasal spray, zinc swabs, drink special teas, take homeopathic medicine, etc...but I just haven't found anything natural that works as quickly as sudafed sinus. On the expectorant side, some of the herbal teas and cough drops do work just as well and at Thanksgiving time I kind of jumped the gun in taking otc expectorant, but I was kind of in a panic state, scared that I would have to take antibiotics. Now I know that my body can fight of a full blown infection, because I have built up my natural immunity and it has done wonders for my attitude about being well. If I can do it, anyone can. Kathy

Way to go Kathy, I'm with you. I'm glad we have medicine when there is nothing else working.. I think pretty much like you on the subject. Even for my son, I try everything else before I let him take anything. Well, you see how it goes first the FDA approves something. A year later they pull it saying it can kill you or something. Just great right? Kelly

Kathy-I believe you mentioned taking bifadus the other day!?Acidophilus is another that will put "the good" bacteria back in your body-Found in yogurt-Dannon i believe makes it--Theres a few good yogurts out there---The antibiotics kill the bad bacteria but unfortunately the good as well---You can buy acidiphilus in pill/powder form to at the health food store-or the yogurt--FYI- Brenda

Most Probiotic blends have acidophilous and bifidous, some blends have 6 or 7 beneficial flora that make up the friendly flora in your digestive system. The Eugalen Topher bifidus powder is a very tasty white powder, it's kind of like a vanilla milkshake, and I first tried it when it was part of a package of things mandatory to take after a 7 day cleanse that I did at a spa in the desert. There's one that I also like called Pearls and it's in a little capsule that looks like a pearl and it's made so that the majority of the flora inside survive your stomach acid. Also it's important to know that the beneficial flora in your digestive tract IS your immune system or at least 75% of it!!! Of course, there are other ways, like yogurt, miso soup, saurkraut and certain kinds of pickles---but none of those are part of the VLCD!!!

KitKat, Good luck getting going again tomorrow.. I to was off the wagon this past weekend and will get going again tomorrow. I had company stop in and we ate and drank then ate some more. Needless to say it was my first full scale relapse and I didn't weigh in today either. I knew it wouldn't be good, so why torture myself.. Just get going again tomorrow. Hope your day goes good, glad your feeling better too. Kelly
